Chamber Music Work of the Day, Installment 15:
"Fanfare for Flute Choir"
(2022)
Composed for a call for scores by the National Flute Association ("NFA"), "Fanfare for Flute Choir" is scored for a 24-piece flute choir/orchestra comprised of 6 C flute parts, 2 alto flute parts, 2 bass flute parts, and a contrabass flute part.
When the piece was not chosen for a prize by the NFA, I presented "Fanfare for Flute Choir" as a gift for the opening of the beautiful and amazing Groton Hill Music Center in Groton, Massachusetts, specifically as a surprise in email inbox of the Director of the Groton Hill Flute Orchestra, Dr. Eileen Yarrison, on August 18, 2022. She was delighted by the surprise and the music, and Eileen and flute orchestra presented the world premiere performance on November 6, 2022, with my wife and myself in attendance. Dr. Yarrison subsequently presented "Fanfare for Flute Choir" at the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. Follow the next URL to see her very positive Facebook posting about it. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/14M85YiMh4/
The sounds are all familiar, but the ways in which they come at one are quite unusual and unexpected. I hope you enjoy "Fanfare for Flute Choir".
