"'Get me a rag!' 'Just a minute...'"
(2021 Arrangement for Ragtime Ensemble of a 2011 1-Minute Rag for Piano Solo)
Composed for a call for scores for 1-minute pieces for piano solo for the end of the world which conspiracy theorists thought would happen in 2012, "'Get me a rag!' 'Just a minute...'" is one of my best named and conceived titles. After all, "If the world is going to end in 2012, it is going to create quite a mess.” :-) Thanks as always to Fifteen Minutes of Fame/Composer's Voice/Vox Novus/Robert Voisey for your ongoing calls for scores.
"'Get me a rag!' 'Just a minute...'" is an homage to Scott Joplin, and is dedicated to the renowned pianist, Shiau-uen Ding, who premiered it. For fun, in 2021 I arranged it for a Ragtime Ensemble comprised of piccolo, E-flat clarinet, trombone, tuba, drum set, piano, 2 violins, viola, violoncello, and contrabass.
The version of "'Get me a rag!' 'Just a minute...'" for Ragtime Ensemble has enjoyed a good deal of attention on YouTube in the scrolling score music video I created for it. Follow the next URL to view that video.
