Chamber Music Work of the Day, Installment 17:
"Hymn of Glory"
for Viola and Cello Ensemble
"Anim Zemiros" for Mixed Chorus (1985) Arranged for Low Strings (1988)
This unabashedly twelve-tone composition effectively contrasts polyphonic sections with homophonic ones. I created the version for low strings because I figured that it would get performed before the choral version ever would because it is among the 3 most difficult choral works I have composed: I was wrong! The New York Virtuoso Singers under the direction of Harold Rosenbaum performed "Anim Zemiros" in its world premiere performance on January 11, 2009, at St. Ignatius Episcopal Church in New York City and, ironically "Hymn of Glory" has yet to be performed. Since the arrangement for low strings is colla parte with the choral version, the two versions can theoretically be performed together.
