Instrumental Solo Composition of the Day, Installment 25:
"Two Brief Fantasy Pieces;" Microtonal Studies
for
Oboe Solo
(1982)
"Two Brief Fantasy Pieces" were written as microtonal studies while I was a student studying instrumentation and orchestration with William Thomas McKinley (1938–2015) at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Along with Mr. McKinley, we were fortunate to have these pieces performed and critiqued by talented student instrumentalists from the school. I have held onto a number of such studies that I composed during that time, ones that I felt have merit.
