Theme and Twelve Variations on "The Marines Hymn"
for String Orchestra;

Composed for a call for scores from the United States Marine Corp Band's String Orchestra, both the wind ensemble and string ensembles of which are referred to as "The President's Own," Theme and Twelve Variations on "The Marines Hymn" is intended both as a sign of appreciation for the men and women who bravely serve our country in this branch of the military, and to create a really fun set of variations on a familiar melody. To the extent possible, the time signatures of the twelve variations are in synchronization with the numbering of each variation, which gets especially entertaining during the fifth and seventh variations that, to my mind, sound like being marines being inebriated while on shore leave!
